ABATE Bike Show Approved

Several visitors were on hands Monday evening for the first Nokomis City Council meeting of
the new year.  Dave Warren approached the council with a request on behalf of the A
Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) to hold it's Shoal Creek annual bike show in
Nokomis on Sunday, July 20.  The group would like to block off Front Street and host activities
from noon to 3 pm, at which time they would proceed on a memorial bike ride.

Following the discussion regarding safety, security and sanitation procedures, the council
approved the motion.

In an earlier session, the council had discussed the possibility of banning parking on portions
of Pine Street to allow for leaf pick-up and snow removal on an as needed basis.

Tom and Angela Snow, who reside on Pine Street, informed the council they must park on
Pine Street as they have no other options available to them.

Mayor Keith Hancock assured the couple that no decision had been made by the council and
their particular circumstances would be taken into consideration along with other residents
living on Pine Street.

Following a thirty minute executive session, the council voted unanimously to authorize water
superintendent Mike Finn to contact the Farnsworth Group to proceed with drilling test holes on
property owned by the Busher Trust.  If successful, the site may eventually be developed to
provide an additional source of drinking water for the city.

During the course of the meeting, the following was noted and/or approved:

A real estate tax payment was received from the county totaling $55,137
$4,177 was received from Charter Communications
Monthly bills were paid totaling $24,606
A building permit was authorized for Bob and Connie Davis for an addition to their home
Evaluations of city employees are to be completed by March 1, 2008

A final agreement with Air Evac Emergency Transport Service was tabled until the next
meeting to be held on Monday, Jan. 28, at 7 pm.
